Mary and Marshall take on a case involving Horst Vanderhoff, an agent for Lola, who's an assassin for hire. While trying to line up her next job, Horst is busted and agrees to testify against her to become a part of the Witness Protection Program.

The song Mary sings is "Lola" by The Kinks, about a transgender person, in relation to the assassin they're hunting.

1.05 Who Shot Jay Arnstein (June 29, 2008)
When Jay Arnstein is put into the witness protection program he not only brings his wife but his mistress. While this doesn't set well with Mary she must keep this a secret, but once Jay is shot all the secrets start to come out.

Pop Culture:
When Mary was interrogating a suspect, the suspect replied "You've been watching too much Law & Order." This would suggest that the L&O universe is fiction to the In Plain Sight characters. However, Mary had a cameo in the Law & Order: Criminal Intent episode "Contract," suggesting that the L&O universe is real to the IPS characters.

1.07 Irs Doesn't Live Here Anymore (July 13, 2008)
The closeness of a family is tested when they enter the program after the daughter witnesses a shooting.

On the down low When Mary is scrambling to come up with a cover story as to why she is registering the girls for school, she mentions that she is their aunt, having been married to their father's brother. In response to the girls' laughter Mary says that her husband was "on the down low." This is slang for a seemingly straight man who is a closeted homosexual.

Four Horsemen Raphael: (to Mary while he's looking up to the sky) I don't see the four horsemen. He's making reference to The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse that are mentioned in the Bible in chapter six of the Book of Revelation, which predicts that they will ride during the Apocalypse. The four horsemen are traditionally named War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death. However, the Bible actually only names one: Death.

She's referencing Prime Time Productions' film The Secret (2006), directed by Drew Heriot and produced by Rhonda Byrne and Paul Harrington, relating the Law of Attraction which consists of three basic steps (ask, believe and receive).
